Tragically, David Parr passed away from a heart attack in 1995, leaving Debbie to raise Andrew and his siblings Lindsay and Bryan (both younger) as a single parent. Andrew confronted this adversity with strength and resilience by accepting family responsibilities well beyond his age, and helping his mother whenever possible. A few years later, Debbie fell in love again and married Robbie Nash, giving Andrew two more sisters and another brother. Robbie comes from a family with a deep history in Canadian golf, and has encouraged Andrew to compete to his full potential at the highest level.
After choosing to pursue golf over hockey in his senior year of high school, Andrew excelled on the amateur stage. In 2001, he dominated the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) with a win and a second-place finish in only three starts! These performances attracted the attention of various American colleges and Andrew wisely chose to attend Texas A&M in addition to playing as an amateur for the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA). Andrew’s determined work ethic, combined with the technical advice of coach Dave Woods (Angus Glen, Ontario) and the RCGA team, carried him to the top of amateur ranks. He won two Ontario Amateur titles (2004, 2006) and had Top-Ten finishes in various Canadian, U.S. and British Amateur contests. His strong career in Texas helped the Aggies compete on the national level, building a top-tier program while earning Andrew All-American status in his senior year! All of this while earning a BSc in Business Marketing, and you can begin to see just how driven Andrew Parr really is.
In January of 2007, Andrew declared himself a professional and decided to head west to Arizona, competing on the Gateway Tour. This decision was fortuitous, as Andrew won his first ever tournament as a professional! Since this win, Andrew has seen much success including a second place finish at the 2008 Edmonton Open and a heartbreaking playoff loss at the Canadian Tour Spring International. Although he has yet to make the cut in his four PGA tournament attempts, Andrew has continued to grow and evolve his golf game to the highest caliber. It is only a matter of time before this young Canadian phenom has a breakthrough performance on the global stage.
